Shape Patterns: sequences for kids
About Shape Patterns
The shape patterns are series of colorful geometric shapes (squares, stars, diamonds, triangles…) that repeat following a hidden rule, and your mission is to figure it out. On Ludorex you'll find this version free of annoying ads, with nice big, colorful shapes so little ones can follow the sequence with no effort. It's a great way to introduce kids to logical thinking even before they know how to add, because you don't need to read or count: just observe and reason. If you're looking for more challenges like this, in our online logic games you'll find dozens of similar activities to keep practicing.
How do you play Shape Patterns?
In each row several shapes already appear in place, with an empty gap at the end marked with a question mark. You need to look at the order of the previous shapes, work out which shape should come next according to the logic of the series, and drag it to the gap with your mouse. If you're right, the sequence is completed and you move on to the next row, each time with slightly longer patterns or more different shape types mixed in.
- Look at the shapes already placed in the row.
- Look for the rule that repeats (one shape, then not; three shapes that rotate; etc.).
- Choose the correct shape among the available options.
- Drag it to the gap marked with the question mark.

What do you learn in Shape Patterns?
- Recognition and classification of geometric shapes.
- Logical-sequential reasoning: anticipating what comes next.
- Sustained attention and visual observation.
- First steps in step-by-step problem solving.
Recommended from age 4, it's perfect for preschool and the first years of primary school.
Tips for playing better: Shape Patterns
- Say each shape and its color out loud before deciding: it helps focus attention.
- If you're torn between two options, cover the last figure in the series and repeat the rule from the start.
- Start practicing with the shorter rows before moving on to longer patterns.
- If an adult is with the child, they can ask them to explain out loud why they chose that figure.
