How do you play Atari Breakout?

Atari Breakout is a fun and challenging game that will put your skills to the test. With a clear goal: destroy all the blocks using the ball, and you’ll need to stay sharp to avoid missing. But don’t worry—this updated version includes power-ups to help you on your mission. From multiplying balls to expanding your paddle, these power-ups give you the edge you need to keep progressing. Your lives are shown in the bottom-left corner of the screen, so make sure to protect them!

Game Modes

Atari Breakout gives you three game modes to choose from: normal, hard, and impossible. Each has its own level of difficulty, and the hard and impossible modes include a bonus score multiplier.

What’s the challenge in these harder modes?

The ball moves faster, so you’ll need to be quick and accurate to grab power-ups and keep the ball from falling past your paddle.

About Atari Breakout

Atari Breakout was released to the market in 1976, influenced by the success of the groundbreaking 1972 game Pong. The concept was designed by Nolan Bushnell and Steve Bristow, while Steve Wozniak and Steve Jobs were responsible for building it. Since then, many versions of Breakout have appeared, all featuring updated visuals and gameplay. For example, in 1978 it was ported to the Atari 2600, and the original iPod included an Easter egg version of Breakout, which could be accessed by holding down the center button for a few seconds. Today, you can enjoy a modernized version of Atari Breakout in web browsers, complete with updated graphics, sounds, and power-ups.

Tips for Playing Atari Breakout

The gameplay mechanics of Breakout are simple, so you need to pay attention to a few details to improve your game. First, keep your eyes on the ball so you don’t lose track of it. Then, position yourself for the next shot to gain an advantage. Collect the power-ups you find to get a bigger boost. If there’s a power-up you want to keep, avoid the others so they don’t get destroyed.
